Sexton was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame in 2009. For all of his work promoting poker, Sexton is often known as 'the ambassador of poker'. On February 15, 2006, Sexton was recognized as the top poker ambassador at the Card Player Magazine Player of the Year Awards Gala. On awards and achievements, Phil Ivey has attained many including being the named by All in Magazine as the poker of the year in 2005 and 2009. His other achievement was getting his 6th and 8th career badge worth $2,500 and $3,000 respectively at the 2009 and 2010 WSOP tournaments. He has also been inducted into poker Hall of Fame.

The Australian Poker Hall of Fame was founded by Maurie Pears in 2009 to formally recognize the accomplishments of poker players and poker industry professionals from Australia and New Zealand. The hall can be seen in the poker room at Crown Melbourne.

Criteria for consideration:

  • are current or former residents of Australia or New Zealand,
  • have demonstrated outstanding and extended service to the game, bringing credit to Australian Casino Tournament Poker, and/or
  • have displayed significant player excellence.
